Sightseeing in OrtakentBefore you head to Ortakent-Yahşi beach, why not visit one of Ortakent’s famous 17th century “Tower Houses” (Kule Ev), which are unique to the area. These houses, similar to small castles, were built as watch towers for defensive purposes to protect the locals against unfriendly off-shore visitors.
The oldest Tower House is the 3-story Mustafa Paşa Kulesi (Tower) built in the early 1600’s, which has meter-thick walls, and was bought by Ada tourism in 1994 to be renovated by Architect Ahmet İğdirligil and interior designer Özben Saygün.
This Tower House has been restored as a one-room romantic getaway hotel called “Ada Ev”, which translates to “Island House”.
Ada Sofra Restaurant next door to Ada Ev Hotel
Adjacent to Ada Ev Hotel, is the Ada Sofra Restaurant. If Adaev is unoccupied, the folks at the restaurant will be happy to give you a tour. Ada Sofra is a popular restaurant, given it’s vantage point and off-the-beaten-track location, so it’s advisable to book a table. On Sundays they offer a family style buffet.
Both destinations share the same website. Click on the link to visit the home page; select English, and then click on the Ada Ev link to view panoramic pictures of the renovated Tower House interior – it looks stunning.
