Each week the H3A group organises a hike around the Bodrum Peninsula. One week it’s a gentle stroll, and the next week it’s a more strenuous hike.
This week, our gentle stroll took us along a tranquil Torba Coastline walk that followed the coastline leading westward out of Torba Bay.
Start of the Torba Coastline Walk
These photos are from the start of our walk at the head of the bay. It was a tranquil scene of aqua skies and turquoise water jostling for prime position in my camera frame. It never ceases to amaze me how clear the water is around the Bodrum Peninsula, and if there wasn’t such a chill in the wire, the water might have enticed me to dive right in.
Out of Torba Bay and along the Coastline
The easy-to-follow path that led out of the head of the bay took us along the coastline into a neighbouring bay edged with narrow stretches of pebble beach.
For a few hundred metres, the path veered inland, and we were led through trees and scrub land past some abandoned stone houses. It’s such a shame to see these old buildings forgotten and neglected. They were positioned to make the most of the view, and surrounded by lush trees and vegetation, and it is easy to imagine a simple life living this far off the beaten path.
We continued as far as we could around this bay, following a narrow stone path that led us through a curtain of trees. Along the coastline were wooden boat jetties and a few areas that screamed out as a picnic location, and I’d like to plan a return visit when the weather is warmer and a dip in the water doesn’t feel like cruel punishment.
If you’re staying at one of the local hotels or resorts (like the Voyage Torba) you can get away from the tourist hub and follow the western edge of Torba Bay up to and past the fishing boat harbour. This road (Atatürk Caddesi) will lead you to the tip of the bay, which is the start of this Torba Coastal Walk.
We ambled along this trail one Sunday, and it took a couple of hours – not because it was a long trail, but because the views were so picturesque that we had to keep taking pictures.
We did the walk a couple of weeks ago – thanks for the heads up. There’s no way past the stone cottage ruins right now unless there’s another path we missed that skirts them. Nice walk with good views though.
