An Introduction to Skyscanner

Guest Blog from James at Skyscanner

I recently wrote an article for the Bodrum Peninsula Travel Guide, talking about 5 reasons to visit Bodrum in 2012, as Jay hadn’t heard of Skyscanner before, I offered to write an introduction to Skyscanner to provide a little more insight into the company and what travel comparisons we’re able to perform.

Introduction to Skyscanner

Skyscanner is a travel search site that helps thousands of people find the cheapest flights every day. It provides instant comparison on flight prices for over 600 airlines and millions of routes, as well as price comparison for car hire, hotels and holidays.

Users are sent straight through to the airline or travel agent, so they benefit from the lowest prices – there is no added commission for using Skyscanner’s service.

The company’s goal is to become the first website in the world to show you the cheapest way to travel from A to B – wherever you are and wherever you want to go, you want to find flights to Turkey or hotels in Bodrum and the recent Skyscanner acquisition of Zoombu will soon allow them to do even more, adding trains and buses to their already large list of air timetables.

Skyscanner operates in 27 different languages including Thai, Japanese and Russian, and over 70 different currencies.

iPhone App

As well as the website, if you need to check flights on the move, Skyscanner now has its very own iPhone App that lets users search for flights, anytime, anywhere. Flight searches can be filtered by take-off and landing time, airline or price. Version 2 now offers extra features, with searches for the best deals by month or country, as well as an ‘explore the globe’ feature to get you inspired for your next trip with and ‘fly to friends’ social functionality so people can share their flight details with friends, family or colleagues via email, Facebook or Twitter in one easy tap.

Facebook & Twitter

Twitter users are certainly not left out – find flights with @FlyScan. All you have to do is tweet details of a flight you want and Skyscanner tweet you back with the details in seconds.

Not just travel search

Skyscanner offers customers much more than a travel search. The website is packed with useful information including detailed guides to popular destinations, while you can sign up for a free, fun weekly ezine full of handy travel tips, special deals and inspirational holiday ideas.
