Itinerary Inspiration: Shop ’til you drop
If you’re vacationing in the northern part of the peninsula, you’ll probably end up spending at least one day in Turgutreis. No matter how much time you have to devote, there’s a variety of options to build your ideal Turgutreis shopping Itinerary. Do you want to fill an hour, or devote a whole day to shopping ’til you drop?
Whether it’s shopping for essentials at one of the local supermarkets or hardware stores; browsing for gifts in the labyrinth of tourist shops behind the Mosque, or walking through the gauntlet of hawkers at the Saturday Street Market in search of fresh produce, clothes, sourvenirs or housewares – there’s plenty to spend your money on. And that’s before we even explore all of the shopping options around the Marina.

1. Weekly Saturday Street Market & Pazar
Estimated Time: 2-4 hours
This weekly market and pazar is the largest on the Peninsula. it’s even bigger than the Bodrum market and I prefer it because it’s located outside. There’s lots of different stalls to browse, and you can spend hours just wandering around.
- The market is in two parts:
- The food and produce section is on the northern side of the main street into town, held in the square that is used as a car park the rest of the time. Around the edges of the square, and down the side streets are a selection of inexpensive places to eat, so once you’ve had enough shopping time (and are ready to drop) you don’t have to go far for a sit down and some refreshments.
- The clothing and textile section is on the southern side of the main street, and is hosted in a narrow Sokak (street), with stalls on either side. They always have a good selection of cotton sarongs and single or double bed throws, which are lightweight and perfect for using as the beach.
Here’s a couple of links to videos of the market:

2. Shopping at the D-Marin Marina
Estimated Time: 2 hours
Artist Street
Making your way along the sea front, head towards Turgutreis Marina, and nestled between a small park and an alfresco cafe, you’ll find an array of local artists exhibiting their handicrafts and paintings. Each evening, this small street is populated by locals and Tourists alike.
Marina Handicrafts Corner
After you’ve wandered through Artist Street, carry on to the Marina (D-Marin), and head to the pedestrian walkway to view the artist carts and stalls that form the Handicrafts corner.
Here, the traditional crafts are melded with modern design, to offer you a different array of collectibles.

3. Tourist Trinkets in the Pazar Area
Estimated Time: 2 hours
There’s no shortage of places to buy tourist trinkets and souvenirs, just venture behind the mosque, and you’ll find yourself in the labyrinth of shops, restaurants and bars that form the heart of Tourist-centric Turgutreis.
If you’re looking for some handmade Turkish Hamam souvenirs by Turkish Soap and Turkish Towels, take a trip to Sabuncakiz Hamam for traditional gifts made by a local artisan.
4. Supermarkets
Just opposite the mosque is the popular Migros supermarket
- Near the Produce Market Square is a small Dia supermarket.
- Further up the road, before the turnoff to Kadikalesi, is a local Tansaş store (near 7028 Sokak)
- Located further along on Mehmet Hılmı Caddesi is the Carrefour Supermarket.
- There’s also a large Kipa near the turn-off to Gumusluk.
5. English Food Shop
Estimated Time: 30 Minutes
Starting from the day boat harbour, with the row of boats on your left, head towards the stone breakwater (which has 3 flagpoles on it). Turn right by the wooden lookout tower, and after about 30 metres you’ll see Uncle’s Restaurant on your right. Head along this road for about 200 metres and the shop will be on your left, which is located beneath the Mandalinci Hotel.
There’s quite a selection of English food shop stables including Bacon, HP Sauce, Baked Beans and Branston.

I’ve been researching Turkey as it’s on my shortlist of places to visit in the near future. Night markets and street stalls are a few of the things I’d love to take photos of, so thanks for doing a write up on that, cheers.

Bonjour,
