Kadikalesi Beach isn’t all Resorts and High Prices
The beach in Kadikalesi, on the northern coastline of the Bodrum Peninsula, is an erratic mix of resorts with wooden jetties and food and beverages services. But squeezed between the Kadikale Resort to the North and Turgutreis to the South, are laid-back areas of beach where you can chill-out. Some have small cafes nearby, and others have no services on the doorstep (but they’re only a short walk away).
Here’s a couple of different areas of beach we visited at the tail-end of last season:
Quiet & Off the Beaten Track
I don’t know if this beach has a name, but it’s near 7118 Sokak. Just wander along this part of the beach and you can’t miss it. It’s snuggled between two resorts and easy to spot. Unfortunately I didn’t take a lot of photos, but this one below gives you a sense of it’s proximity to the neighboring resorts. They’re not far away, but within easy walking distance.
This wide expanse of sandy beach is in front of a small enclosed hotel or apartment building (but they don’t come out and serve drinks or food). There were no other beach services, beds or umbrellas here on this stretch of beach when we visited, so remember to take some towels or a sarong to lie on.
We stumbled across this beach by accident and didn’t come prepared, so I had to walk to the neighbouring resort to the south to buy a couple of waters, but it was only a 3 minute walk away.
Visibility in the water was good for snorkeling but we didn’t see many fish. It was quite windy on the day we visited here, but it didn’t matter because it was a blazing hot day.
I wouldn’t say this is a destination beach to head for, but if you’re nearby and you want a quick swim, or just an hour at a beach away from the crowds, this one is a good option.
It would make a good stopping off point if you’re doing the walk between Turgutreis and Kadikalesi.
Parasailing Nearby
One of the neighbouring resorts had their parasailing boat going, but it wasn’t too noisy, and the bonus is that I got a couple of great photos.
Beach in front of the Pitos Restaurant and Bar
If you’re not quite ready to eek out a sliver of beach with no services, another alternative is head to the Pitos Cafe which has tables and chairs available on their wooden patio. They also have umbrellas and wooden loungers on the sand.
UPDATE NOVE 2020: The Pitos Bar and Restaurant used to be called the Kekik Cafe, but it changed ownership and has been renovated and renamed.
As you can see, you’re only a short stroll from the activities and action of the resorts that line this part of the coastline.
The best way to find the Pitos Restaurant from the road, is head towards the village mosque. Turn down the little side street to where they’ve built the new piazza area with the cluster of restaurants. The Kadikale resort will be to your right, but you need to turn left along the beach and head in the direction of Turgutreis. You’ll stumble across the Pitos Restaurant within a couple of minutes.
