Saturday in Turgutreis
I usually head down to Turgutreis on Saturday for the farmer’s market, and then visit the Belediyesi Cafe for an Americano (5TL). This area of town is a great place to people watch, and recover from the craziness of wandering around the market during the heat of summer.
Belediyesi Amiral Cafe
It’s counter order service at the cafe, and you need to pick your drinks and foods up at the counter.
Even if you sit inside you have a lovely view of the harbour.

Other Turgutreis Cafes near the Harbour
There’s a colourful little cafe called the Çıtı Pıtı Nargile Cafe:

The Turgutreis Asmali Nargile Cafe is a couple of doors away, and may not be as colourful but it has a nice shady courtyard area.

Gümüşlük Dondurma
You don’t have to travel too far to satisfy your sweet tooth. You can get an ice cream, waffles and lokma at the dondurma that overlooks the harbour.
The last cafe in the row is the Kamelya Cafe … there’s no sign outside to indicate its name, but it has bright red umbrellas and you can’t miss it. They also have their own dondurma.
The Kamelya also had numerous signs up for Süt Mısır – which is corn on the cob.
What’s Nearby?
There’s a small children’s playground (and the requisite Turkish Gym) in this neighbourhood, it’s called:
This park is located just in front of the Kamelya Cafe.
Down the other end of the row of cafes, near the Asmali Nargile Cafe and Çıtı Pıtı Nargile Cafe, is Şehit Barış Akay Park, and this is where the local craft stalls are located.
Getting to and from Turgutreis on the Dolmus from Bodrum
This time of year (summer) the Dolmuş starts to run early morning, and continues into the wee small hours of the morning. This image show the first a last bus to and from Turgutreis to Bodrum, and the first a last bus from Bodrum to Turgutreis.
Hello Jay-I love your pics and info of the Peninsula-I just read somewhere, that you grew up in Norfolk, wanted to live in USA and was an Osmond fan. It rang home how similar my life is to that! I m a Norfolk gal, who was a huge Elvis fan and wanted to live in USA. Ive been here almost 28 years on the West Coast! Now I’m moving to Turgutreis with my Hubby in Nov!
Would love to somehow meet with you and enjoy a great hike! You certainly know your way around-thank you for all the info – I have been following and studying it for nearly a year!
