Shopping at Koyunbaba Market
If you missed the chance to visit one of the nearby markets in Gümsülük or Yalikavak, and couldn’t be bothered to visit the Saturday market in Turgutreis, there’s a convenient weekend alternative held every Sunday at the back of Migros.
Last time I visited there were only fruit and vegetable stalls, but now there’s a cheese and dairy stall, that also sell olive oil and a selection of jams and honey.
It doesn’t stop there, as you wander through this little clutch of stalls, you’re wandering amid the aroma of freshly grilled gözleme. This stall immediately in front of the bakery, also sell böreks, and I’m wondering whether it’s just our neighbourhood baker’s way of extending his business onto the pavement.
There’s also a more extensive stall selling local jams, honey, dried fruit, nuts, and a good range of spices.
There seems to be a to more of these markets popping up around the peninsula, and from a convenience standpoint, they’re a welcome arrival.
Our little market may only be small, but it’s mighty convenient—especially as it’s located right behind Migros, so you can get all your shopping done in one spot.
