Karakaya Village
The former Greek Karakaya Village was located up on the hill overlooking Gümüşlük, to protect itself from pirates and invading forces landing in nearby Ancient Myndos.
After the Greek/Turkish population exchange (which was a result of the Turkish War of Independence in 1923), the village of Karakaya was abandoned, and the Bodrum style houses fell into disrepair.
In recent years, people have renovated the houses and taken up residence in Karakaya, year-round, or during the summer months.
