Kadikalesi, midway between Gümüşlük and Turgutreis
After you’ve navigated through the Gümüşlük rush hour, on your way to Turgutreis, make sure to leave time for a couple of stops along the way, including one at Kadikalesi.
Heading south out of Gümüşlük, about 2 1/2 km after you turn onto the Turgutreis road, you’ll come to Kadikalesi.
Take a Right onto the little side road, and they’ll be a row of houses on your right. Drive to the end of this short road, park up, and wander to the beach.
For great views of the Aegean, you can either test your balancing skills by strolling along the dock, or push through the crowds and while-away some time at one of the local beach front cafes.
This little corner of the peninsula is an “opt out of the rat race for a minute”, location. We’ve visited this location on multiple occasions, and just once, someone else had beat us to the view.
Mind you it was out-of-season – which explains why the jetty looks so challenging to walk on. Rest assured, during the summer months, they do replace the jetty floor!
Kadikalesi gets its name from the remains of a nearby castle belonging to the Hellenistic era. Nearby, there’s the remains of a castle (Kadi’s Castle) from the Hellenistic era, and it’s this castle which gives this village it’s name. Kadi (the name for an Ottoman era Judge) and Kalesi (Castle).
Driven through here many times (like you, I always notice the cute little mosque), but have never stopped. Besides the Pitos bar, are there other restaurants and bars around the Beach?
Yes, quite a few lovely little fish restaurants on the beach. Watching the sun go down while enjoying Kalamari…..fabulous.
Natasha – The first photo on this article, is on the beach near the side street that leads from the mosque. Don’t know the name, but it looks like a great spot for cocktails at sunset, or dinner. I’ve had a couple of little wanders around the beach, but next time I go, I’ll take more photo’s of the restaurants etc. and post them here.
John – let me know if you’re up for providing some local info, we can craft into an article – sounds like you know the area well. It’s always good to get other visitor’s insights.
