Travel between the Turgutreis Lighthouses
From the Turgutreis Harbour Lighthouse to the Kadekelesi Hüseyin Lighthouse
If you drive south from Turgutreis, and away from the Harbour Lighthouse (above), the view from the coastal road is breathtaking, and offers stunning views of the Aegean scattered with a variety of Islands to break up the turquoise aqua tedium!
The group of island you see are the large island of Çatal, along with the smaller islands of Sarcia/Sariot, Tüllüce, Pirasa and Yassi Ada.
This drive is one of the most breathtaking one’s I’ve driven along on the Bodrum Peninsula, and luckily there’s plenty of opportunities to pull off the road to absorb, and photograph, the view.
Keep driving, and just past Alaca Point, you’ll be in the district of Kemer. This area is marked by the Kadekelesi Hüseyin Feneri (Lighthouse) which was built by the French in 1931.
The big Island you’ll see in the distance, is the Greek Island of Kos, which at it’s closest point is only about 5km away.
On the south side of the Lighthouse is Fener Beach (also known as Kemer Beach) which is a 500 metre long sandy beach.
The winds off this corner of the peninsula are meant to be great for Kite Surfing, and you can stop to enjoy the view and wave at neighbouring Greeks, from the Fener Restaurant.
Big enthusiast of your website, a lot of your articles and blog posts have really helped me out. Looking towards more posts!
Thanks Liliana – hope you get as much enjoyment out of reading them, as I do writing them! RJ

That’s great to hear Sue. The Bodrum Peninsula is like an onion — if you just peel by the layers you’ll discover another.
