Update: May 2015 …. the Gümüşlük road has reopened
Gümüşlük Coast Road Closed
The Gümüşlük Coast Road has been closed for over a year because of the archeological dig activity otearby. As you head towards Gümüşlük harbour the coast road veers off to the right and it’s become a bit of an impromptu car park along here. When we visited in September, I had a little nose around to see what I could discover.
At the top of this coast road hill is a narrow gap that’s wide enough to walk or cycle through, but it’s not wide enough for cars (or the dolmus) to pass. There’s a big mound of dirt because of the local dig activity on the slope leading down to the harbour area leading to the car park and dolmus station.
This activity is just near where the rock caves were discovered a couple of years ago, so it’s anyone’s guess what will be found in this area over the next couple of years.

The biggest impact to the road closure is that the dolmus service is no longer able to scoot from the habour along the coast to Yalikavak, it has to go via the village route.
