In an earlier post I discussed the new local village border between Yalıkavak and Gümüşlük, which has now been re-signposted as Koyunbaba and Geriş. You may wonder why this corner of the Bodrum Peninsula warrants to much attention, well it’s because of the local dolumş and city bus routes and services.
This main road that connects Yalıkavak and Gümüşlük can cause quite a bit of transport option confusion unless you understand where one service begins and ends, and what your options are for traveling along this stretch of road.
Yalıkavak City Dolmuş routes
There’s two areas on the Bodrum Peninsula that run their own City Dolmuş routes, one of them is Bodrum town and the other is Yalıkavak. These city bus routes only service locations within the city limits. The furthest point that the Yalıkavak City Dolmuş service runs along this road it to the area known as Gümüşkaya – which is where Koyunbaba and Geriş meet.
The Gümüşkaya City Dolmuş line goes from central Yalıkavak to Gümüşkaya, and then turns around and goes back to Yalıkavak Bus Station. Depending the time of the bus – it either takes the upper road back into Yalıkavak, or the lower road through Geriş Altı (which is the coastal route along the cobbled street).
If you get on the Gümüşkaya bound Yalıkavak Dolmuş, you’d have to change at Gümüşkaya to get on the Gümüşlük Dolmuş.
As of August 2017: The fare from Gümüşkaya to Yalıkavak is 3TL.
Gümüşlük Dolmuş routes
The furthest point that the Gümüşlük Dolmuş service runs along this road it to the same area in Gümüşkaya. These Dolmuş routes connect Gümüşkaya to either Turgutreis or Bodrum via Gümüşlük.
If you get on the Gümüşkaya bound Gümüşlük Dolmuş, you’d have to change at Gümüşkaya to get on the Yalıkavak City Dolmuş.
Turgutreis to Göl-Türkbükü Dolmuş route
This Dolmuş service runs along the coastal road connecting these two towns and runs along the same roads that the Gümüşlük and Yalıkavak buses run.
If you’re at any place along the route between Gümüşlük and Gümüşkaya (e.g. at Migros in Koyunbaba) and want to get to Yalıkavak – you should take the Turgutreis to Göl-Türkbükü Dolmuş route.
As of August 2017: The fare from Migros to Yalıkavak is 3.50TL.
If you take one of the Gümüşlük Dolmuş to Gümüşkaya you have to change to the Yalıkavak City Dolmuş.
Here’s the Timetable for this Route – based on the times it leaves Yalıkavak in both directions:
Why didn’t the Dolumş stop?
The Göl-Türkbükü Dolmuş won’t always stop to pick you up because they can only pick you up if their bus is the only one that can take you to your destination.
If you happen to be at the Gümüşkaya bus stop (or anywhere further along this road) heading towards Yalıkavak, the Turgutreis to Göl-Türkbükü Dolmuş won’t pick you up, because this is the pick-up territory of the Yalıkavak City Dolmuş – and the other isn’t allowed to pick you up.
If you happen to be at the Gümüşkaya bus stop (or anywhere further along this road) heading towards Gümüşlük, the Turgutreis to Göl-Türkbükü Dolumş won’t pick you up, because this is the pick-up territory of the Gümüşlük Dolumş – and the other isn’t allowed to pick you up.
Mugla City Bus Service
As well as the local Dolumş service there’s a bus service run by the Mugla district, just to confuse things, these are called City Buses too! There’s no Mugla City bus that goes from Gümüşkaya to Yalıkavak, but there is a Mugla City bus that goes from Gümüşkaya to Bodrum. But they are only allowed to pick up passengers at designated bus stops along the route, whereas the Dolumş stops anywhere along the route.
If you have the option, choose the Mugla City bus service as it’s a little bit cheaper, and cheaper still if you use a Kent Card.
