Exploring Gölköy
This articles the third instalment of our walk around Gölköy, and follows on from:
-
Exploring Gölköy Part 1: East End of the Bay
-
Exploring Gölköy Part 2: West End of the Bay
We’re still at the West End of Gölköy Bay and this article focuses on the Harbour and Boat Trips. At the bottom of the small hill is a car park area which is ideally located for a day at the beach or if you plan on taking a boat trip.
You’ll see a wooden kiosk by the harbour advertising the local boat trips.
There’s two different routes the day boats take. Departures are at 10:30am and return aroung 5:30pm.
The first day boat route travels East and visits the local bays (koy) and Derin Harbour. This one pays a visit to Paradise Bay which is just picturesque cove just east of Gölköy.
The second day boat route travels West and takes a tour of the local islands. As well as tourist day boats this harbour is also where the local fishing boats dock. If you get here early enough you will see the local fishermen sorting their catch and mending their nets. There’s a local Water Taxi service that runs can ferry you over to Turkbuku.
Unlike the bigger towns of Bodrum and Turgutreis where there’s a collection of large and smaller day boats, Gölköy harbour is only large enough for the smaller day boats. These day boats comfortably fit a dozen or so passengers, so you’re assured of a mellower day out from Gölköy.
Here’s a view of Gölköy Harbour looking back down the beach.
