My walk around Yalikavak’s Neighbour, Gerişalti
Although Gerişalti is well-known for is posh fish restaurants, there are other eating options available if you find yourself in the neighbour, and fancy a quick snack.
The Yali Cafe is located right next door to the Yali Market, and both are just the other side of the local mosque. When I wandered by, the place was a abuzz with locals, sheltering in the shade away from the mid-day sun.
Another option, just a little bit further along the street, is the Kaptan Kafeteria.
There are a few local tourist shops selling gourds and windmills, and when you drive through Gerişalti at night, the shops are all lit up like a Christmas tree.
Towards the Yalikavak end of the village, is a small beach, from which you have a good view of Yalikavak harbour and the Millionaires club. There’s a small restaurant here selling food and drink, and though it’s not the prettiest of beaches, it’ll do at a pinch.
The rest of this photo gallery features quite a few of the local restaurants in the heart of the village, but there are many more all the way along the cobbled streets of Gerişalti.
If you’re staying in neighbouring Yalikavak, you can quite easily walk to Gerişalti from there. Just follow the lower road that leads west out of town, and you’ll pass Yalikavak Marina on your right, and a few hundred yards further along, you’ll reach the beginning of Gerişalti.
It’s easy to do this walk in the morning or evening, but it’s not recommended in the mid-day sun. There are a couple of small hills that can take it out of you when the weather is blazing hot. Other options are to take the dolmus or hop in a cab for the short journey between these two locations.
