Good decision to visit Ephesus!  – it’s a stunning place, a must-see for visitors coming to this part of Turkey.

Ephesus was a Greek city and later a Roman city with a population of 250,000 inhabitants, enormous for 1st century BC. Everything is made of marble, including the huge slabs paving the streets. It is immediately obvious that this was a very wealthy city, it still looks glorious.

The front façade of the library is still standing as are some of the temples and fountains and the streets are lined with imposing marble pillars.

The latrines are interesting…a large room with raised toilets built within a foot of one another and with no divider between them. I would hope that it was ventilated but probably not!  Can’t imagine how they sat on the loo so close to the next person doing his/her business!

There were lots of tourists, many guides in Ephesus…we did our own thing which was nice as we could go wherever we wanted to and spend as much time as we wanted to in any section.

Ephesus has two amphitheatres, a large one and a smaller one. Many concerts have been held here and as the acoustics are so perfect, the singers performed without any microphones! It must have been amazing to attend concerts by the likes of Diana Ross, Demis Roussos and Pavarotti in this setting!

Before making our way to Ephesus we drove the entire coastline of the Bodrum peninsular which was very beautiful – the best beaches are here. Love the gorgeous white windmills that you see in the countryside around here!
