Public Transport Dolmuş from Turgutreis
Turgutreis is one of the main commercial and tourist hubs on the peninsula. It’s robust public transport system makes it easy to travel to the other destinations.
Below are a sample of the routes; frequency and pricing where available. This information should only be used as a guide. Prices and timings vary by season, and are subject to change.
The name dolmuş translates to “stuffed”, and if a dolmuş is full, it’ll leave for it’s destination. Consequently, if it isn’t full, it may hang around the bus station waiting for more passengers.
Traveling South out of Turgutreis:
My favorite coastal ride is on a Dolmuş from Turgutreis to Akyarlar, with unobstructed Aegean views, dotted with islands. Just before you round the corner to Akyarlar, you’ll pass via Fener Lighthouse and Fener Beach, with Kos in the distance. There’s an enticing selection of beaches around this part of the peninsula, they you’ll easily be able to reach from Akyarlar.
Some of these fares are for 2012, which was the last time I travelled those routes. Thanks to Sue for providing me with the update 2014 pricing for the Kadikalesi route. If any other readers have updated pricing information, I’d appreciate hearing from you.
- Akyarlar – every 15-20 minutes (2012: 3TL each way)
Traveling North out of Turgutreis:
All of these northern routes travel through Kadikalesi so you can hop on any dolmuş heading north, and just get off at Kadikalesi (2012: 2.25TL / 2014 3.25TL):
- Gümüşlük – every 15-20 minutes
- Yalikavak – every 35-60 minutes (2012: 4.50TL)
- Gündoğan – every 45-60 minutes
Traveling East out of Turgutreis:
This route travels via Ortakent town, and then through Konacık, on it’s way to Bodrum.
- Bodrum – every 20-30 minutes
- Journey time approx 30-40 minutes
I am looking at visiting the market and will bus it from Torba to Bodrum and then on to Turgetries….is this and easy trip and how olng?
Thank you
Julie – it’ll only take you about 15 minutes to get from Torba to Bodrum. The bus will take you directly into the Bodrum Bus Station, and you can switch to a Turgutreis Dolmus. You won’t have any trouble finding a bus to Turgutreis, as it’s a popular destination. The trip to Turgutreis will take about 30-40 minutes, depending on the time of day.
