What & When is the Ezan?
The EZAN (Call to Prayer) is chanted six times a day.
The exact time of the ezan is determined by the timing of sunrise and sunset.
This table includes a summary of each call to prayer, and a time-of-day indicator of when it occurs:
İmsak |

Güneş |

Midday (when the sun passes it’s peak) |
İkindi |
Afternoon (when objects and their shadows are equal height) |

Sunset (when the sun has disappeared below the horizon) |

Mosque Visiting Times
- Unless you’re answering the call to prayer, avoid visiting a mosque at prayer time, i.e. within 1/2 an hour after the call to prayer (ezan) is chanted.
- Avoid visiting a mosque on Friday late morning through early afternoon, which is when the weekly group prayers and sermons take place.
