In response to this post on Facebook Eljay wrote “Datca is a great place, stuffed full of ancient wotnots and the restaurants and bars are much cheaper too! get your friendly boatman to drop you off. We tell our guests at http://www.facebook.com/l/cd062/theoldstonehouseturkey.com to try it out for a day. They love it. Very Turkish.”
Grivot – Black Island aka Karaada is a short trip from Bodrum, and has a mineral pool you can visit. Most of the day boats stop off here.
The Dolmus service is cheap and frequent. You can just head to the Dolmus station, and look for one with the destination you want to visit. Quite often, the destinations are shouted out as well. You can get to Torba in about 10-15 minutes, Yalikavak in about 25 minutes, and Gumusluk in about 30-35 minutes. These are all quieter than Bodrum.
Click on the Tag cloud for PAZAR – to find out which day’s the markets are held at the different towns and villages around the peninsula. My favourite is Yalikavak on a Thursday. If you want crazy big – try Turgutreis on a Saturday. RJ

I received an email about the 2014 schedule, so an posting the exchange here FYI:
Kirsten “We are wanting to take the ferry from Datca to Bodrum on May 16 but we heard that the Datca harbour is undergoing maintenence and may not be working in May? Have you heard about this? We are driving from Kas to Datca then on to Bodrum. Is there another car ferry that goes to Bodrum along the coast from Kas? Marmaris doesn’t seem to have a car ferry going to Bodrum. The inland drive wouldn’t be nearly as interesting I think?”
My Response: Hi Kirsten .. they’ve been working on the Datca Ferry port area for the past couple of years.
I saw an article in a Turkish newspaper from September 2013 which mentioned that the harbour was opened up to international traffic again. http://www.haberler.com/datca-limani-uluslararasi-deniz-yolcu-trafigine-5099567-haberi/
According to the Bodrum Ferryboat website, the Bodrum/Datca service starts up again in April for the season, but the ferry times haven’t been announced yet. Last year there were two ferries a day leaving Datca at 09.30am and 5:30pm.
You can drive from Datca to Bodrum, but much of it is inland and can be a bit disappointing because much of it is away from the sea. The drive would take you about 4+ hours.
I’d recommend monitoring the Timetable on the Bodrum Ferryboat site, and have the drive as a back up option. I don’t know of a ferry from Marmaris to Bodrum, although they both have routes that connect in Rhodes.
