Discovering Hidden Gems off the beaten track in Bodrum
The next morning we returned our hire car in Bodrum and spent a few hours exploring the town. It is a very touristy town, lots of eateries and shops and people trying to get you into their shop.
We wanted to have authentic Turkish food, not the stuff they sell to tourists so we asked at the tourist office who directed us to a restaurant in a tiny cobbled street in the centre of Bodrum.
Wonderful…the restaurant was frequented by locals only (except for us and another couple). The owner introduced us to his son, his brother-in-law, his nephew and while he was doing this a couple entered the restaurant, the lady was German (I think) and had her arms flung out as if to embrace and her eyes shining wildly. When the owner saw her he too shouted…so the conversation went like this… “this is my son, that is my brother-in-law, this is my nephew”…enter the lady with open arms…. “and ….my lover!!!!” Upon which they embraced…it was very amusing!
He gave me a plate of a little of everything so that I can work out what I like best for next time. The problem is that I liked everything…so I guess I will have to eat all that food again! Also found another little gem of a restaurant catering to locals and looking forward to trying it out the next time we are in Bodrum.
