Early Morning Visit
We decided to venture away from the safety of traveling by Dolmus, and rent a moped for the day to do a tour of the northern coast of the peninsula.
Our first port of call was the Bodrum Golf Club in Ortakent. Coming out of Bodrum on the main road (D330), we took a right just after the Kipa and Metro stores, towards Yalikavak.
Then drove for about another km, before taking a left hand turn to the Bodrum Golf Club, which was located at the end of a 600 metre rickety road.
We’d had an early start from Bodrum, and some of the residents of the golf course, were still sleeping. But we got a warm welcome from the Manager, who offered Red a tour of the golf course.
Where’s the rest of the holes?
Red’s initial excitement of discovering that there was actually a golf course on the peninsula, waned a little when he discovered that instead of the usual 18 holes – there were only 5!
Putting Green and Driving Range
Undeterred, Red went to the putting green, and gave the Course Manager some tips on the technique of chipping – which were greatly appreciated.
As well as the putting green, there was also a driving range, with enough room for 5 golfers.
These looked pretty impressive – until we realized that automated ball-retrieval machines haven’t made it to the Bodrum Peninsula yet, and the golf course was relying on a tried and tested manual ball retrieval process.
A nightmare for these girls if all 5 Driving Range slots were in use at the same time – especially given the size of their bucket.
We used this activity as a spectator sport for a while, and then left the girls prowling for stray balls on the range, whilst we retired to the Club house for refreshments.
Club House
It was a beautiful morning, and the course was so peaceful. It was a delight to linger over our Turkish Coffee and make small talk with the Manager, whilst we enjoyed the morning calm and sunshine
By the time we bade our farewells, the Club Mascot had woken up, but was a little slow about jumping into action.
We realized then, that he was a perfect mascot for the Bodrum Golf Club.
Poised for action, just slow to get going!

The golf course, with trees and the addition of three large lakes, promises to be quite challenging and great fun. Five (5) tee shots will be played over water. In the second round one will be oblique to make different strokes since the tee locations be different. Our course has 4 par 4’s and 5 par 3’s, total par 31.
Grass looks a bit patchy in same areas doesn’t it? Would like to take the mascot home with me though!!
You’re right Natalie – the course isn’t quite “Tournament Ready” yet! – but it’s the only golf facility on the peninsula – so they have the market cornered. RJ
