Rain didn’t stop Play
Each year the Municipality of Bodrum organizes the annual Camel Wrestling festival held in. This year it was held on a raining Sunday in the Camel Wrestling arena in Kızılağaç, just east of the Bodrum Peninsula.
Despite the wet weather, the crowds gathered to watch 120 camels participate in the event. The Mayor of Bodrum, Mehmet Kocadon, is a big supporter of Camel Wrestling, and was there for photo opportunities.
The noise and aromas typical of these events was there in full force, and the crowd didn’t let the soggy weather dampen their spirits. Shouts and cheers reverberated around the arena (which is used to host motorcycle races later in the year), and the steam and heat from the bar-b-ques .. both official and unofficial, managed to stave off the cold, as well as the hunger for this all day event (10:00am to 5:00pm).
The crowds started to thin out as the day progressed, but there was still a dedicated crowd they at the end of the day to watch the prize-giving ceremonies, and to see a camel named Kocaoğlan be awarded Champion of the Competition.
No Charge for Entry
One of the best elements of this event, is there’s no entry fee into the grounds. So thanks to the Bodrum Municipality for supporting this event.
