Having been on a couple of noisy boat trips, I’m always on the look-out for recommendations for mellow boat trips.
My idea of a perfect day-boat soundtrack is waves lapping against the hull of the boat, not blasting music. So it’s great to be able to feature a Guest Post by Roderick from the Netherlands, who recommends the Adorya Boat Trip from Bodrum — which has the kind of soundtrack I’m looking for to accompany a chilled day out on the Aegean.

A Day in Paradise
We took a trip with Adorya on a Tuesday after having booked the night before. Adorya is moored in the marina, just left of the fish market and is easily recognizable as one of the smaller gulets with the text:
“A day with Adorya is a day in paradise”.
The captain, Adil, sits on his boat during evenings and is a very nice and welcoming person with a good command of the English language. He’s owned the Adorya for 18 years, which is a 14 metre wooden gullet and takes a maximum of 12 passengers on board (during our trip there were 6). This small group size guarantees enough space for everyone to either lie on the deck sunbathing or sit in the shade reading – or whatever else you like to do.
Timetable and Lunch
Adorya departs at 10.30am and returns around 5.30pm. During the trip Adil moors in a few quiet places where you can take a swim and where lunch (either fish of chicken with pasta and a salad) is served. Lunch is the standard day-boat culinary experience, and well suited for the occasion. Price for the trip was 30 euro per person, including lunch, excluding drinks, which we found perfectly reasonable.
Not a Party Boat
When you are looking for a dynamic, all day dancing, drinking and music experience, look elsewhere.
There was no music on the Adorya during our trip, and the only moment that the sublime peacefulness of the experience is disturbed is when other, more party-oriented boats are in the neighbourhood which, since you can not sail very far in a few hours, is bound to happen from time to time.
When you favour a quiet and peaceful day away from the hassle of Bodrum with a nice swim and probably some pleasant conversation, Adorya may well be the right choice.

We enjoyed our trip with Adil on his beautiful gullet so much we went twice in 10 days. Lyn & Adil are really really nice people, the food was amazing and we had a brilliant time, because we had been with Adil before on the Wednesday, when we went again Saturday he took us somewhere totally different and to quote Lyn she said “I’ve no idea where he is taking us, but he said we are going somewhere different because you’ve been with us before”.
When we booked to go back at no point did we expect to do anything different than the first day we spent with them, it just proves what kind and thoughtful people they are. The food is amazing and there’s plenty of beer on ice, or if you prefer the copious amounts of soft drinks too. We didn’t want a party boat with loads of people, there were 10 of us and it was brilliant. I can’t recommend them enough – Adil works long hours and is very thoughtful and he deserves to make his business succeed. If we go back to Bodrum we will be sailing with them again.
Hi Gina … thanks for the brilliant review of the Adorya boat trip. It’s always great to hear first hand experience, as I think this really helps people with the tough decision of which boat trip to take.
I don’t blame you for going twice in 2 weeks… my favourite activity is a boat trip. Nothing like it.

Twice in 2 weeks….. Twice in 10 days 😉
I promised Adil I would write him a review, as he wouldn’t allow me to pay for our beer when he invited us on his boat one night when we were walking past.
There he was sat eating his tea at the back of his boat , when he waved us to join him , he told my daughter she had to get the drinks as she knew where they were kept , and we were his friends, not his customer – she got out three beers.
Whilst we sat talking he asked my daughter if she was hungry, as he said he would cut his amazing looking sandwich in half to share it with her.
I asked him how much for the beer and he said if I paid him for the beer we wouldn’t be welcome on his boat again, but asked me if I would leave him a review, so in reply for his kindness and such a fantastic time on his boat , everything I can find about Adil and his boat I’m leaving him a review 🙂
Did you take any photo’s of your boat trip? If so, I’ll create a photo album page on this website. thanks, Jay
