Bitez Market – held every Thursday
The Bitez Market is held outside on an open scrub of land in a temporary position while it’s permanent home is under construction across the street. This weekly market is a sprawling mass of food and clothes stalls nestled up awnings to shield you from the blazing sun. There’s a good mix of locals and tourists at this market, and it’s decidedly more chilled an laid back than the Saturday market at Turgutreis or Yalikavak’s Thursday Market.

Our Favourite Turkish Cheese
If you’re looking for a fabulous cheese to make you’re own Turkish Breakfast, or just some cheese to nibble on with some salty olives, I can highly recommend Izmir Tulum.
Tulum is similar to White Cheese, but it’s strained to remove the water, to create a crumbly texture. The crumbled curd is salted and aged for 3-6 months. It’s not too strong, and it’s one of our favourites.
Markets can be tiring!
[important]March 2014 update – Temp location: The Bitez market area is currently under development to create a covered market area, so the temporary market location is on the other side of the street on a vacant plot of land.[/important]
