Hiking the Coastal Path
Start of the hike
- Walk past the marina (on your right) and the dolmuş station (on your left), and you will come upon two paths. Take either of these and they join up before you get to the first bay.
Along the way
- After about 10-15 minutes you’ll encounter the first of two small gorgeous bays, which make great stopping off points for a swim.
- At the third, larger bay, follow the path uphill to the brow, and then walk back down the other side. Along the way you’ll pass a Sarnıç (white domed water cistern)
- The path leads you to another bay that’s suited for swimming, and just opposite is a view of a tiny island and the larger Ada Boğazi. The water is a crystal clear aqua marine and ideal for swimming and snorkeling.
From Bitez Harbour to this point is about is about 2 1/2 km and takes about an hour. It’s not really suitable for anyone with walking difficulties as the path can be quite demanding. In places it’s rough and stony, and is only flat along certain stretches.

Reaching Aquarium Cove
- Walk back to the Sarnıç and follow the other northern path, and this will lead you to the secluded Aquarium Cove.
- Along the way you’ll pass a yellow hut.
Refreshments
- Once you start the hike, there aren’t any places to buy refreshments, so make sure you take plenty of water with you.
- After the hike, why not stop off at the Iskele Cafe just by the day boat harbour, for a drink or snack. This is a relaxing place to watch the day boats come and go, and recover after your walk.
My wife and I are avid hikers and are planning next year to travel to Turkey. I was looking for hiking places in Turkey and stumbled across your blog. This Bitez hike has me thinking. Thanks for writing the article
