Introduction
One of the most important annual event in Gümüşlük is the International Classical Music Festival and the Summer Music School.
The activities and events organized during the summer months, by the “Gümüşlük Culture & Art Association” take place in the nearby Eklisia location, an Ancient 250 year old Byzantium Church, near the Gümüşlük dolmuş station.
Origins
This Music Festival began in 2004 as a series of concerts, and over the years has evolved into a meeting place for internationally renowned musicians as well as up-and-coming performers.
Starting in 2013 the main location for the Annual Classical Music Festival has changed… see the end of this article for more information
Venues
As well as using Eklisia as a venue, nearby hotels and restaurants and various venues around the Bodrum peninsula (Bodrum Castle for example) are also used to host events during the Festival.
Not Stuffy
Even thought the Music Festival has expanded and grown, the organizers still strive to maintain a relaxed and informal atmosphere around the different performances, in order to counter-balance the more formal atmosphere that usually surrounds music conservatory environments. One way this is achieved, is to encourage the Teachers and students to mingle and interact as much as possible.
Great Acoustics
The overwhelming acoustics of Eklisia, entices Festival goers to return on to this ancient location year after year, and even when the Festival season is over, Eklisia continues to be leveraged to host art shows and concerts.
Dates and Information
The Festival website has recently announced the dates and performances for the 2012.

NEW VENUE FOR 2013
Since there has been an increase in the number of people that show up for the international music festival, businesses should take make sure there is enough accommodation services, food and even entertainment for the influx of people. The turn out of people is expected to rise in the future, and this offers good businesses opportunities for Bodrum.
when is it?
Hi Eljay — I added dates for last year’s Festival to the article – and it spanned July to September. There’s a note on the Festival website, indicating that the 2012 program will be released in March, but at time of writing, they still hadn’t published the dates. I’ll keep checking back, and as soon as I find out the dates, I’ll add it to the post.
thanks, Jay
