Getting into the water at Kadikalesi
As mentioned in my intro to Polly’s Waxing Lyrical post about her Top 5 ways to Enjoy the Water in Bodrum, I’ve been working on a series of water-themed articles with Paul over at Pure Tourism.
The series kicks off with an interview, to introduce us to the Pure ethos and services, and will be followed up with some informative Windsurfing and Local Area Top 5 lists from Paul.
PURE – more than a holiday
RJ: How did the idea of Pure Tourism come about?
Paul: My partner and I had worked in Turkey for many years and, as is the case of many people who work in the water-sports industry, it was our dream to set up a windsurfing and sailing school.
RJ: How did you choose your location?
Paul: We checked many different locations all over Turkey; Alaçatı, Camel Beach, Akyarlar, Gökçeada and Kadikalesi.
We finally decided on Kadikalesi, because in terms of wind conditions, safe sailing area and transport to the surrounding area, it was the best location.
RJ: What makes PURE stand out from the crowd?
Paul: The ethos of PURE is to offer something different, and to ensure we’re benefiting the local economy as much as we can.
When visitors come on a PURE holiday, we give them a great introduction into the area. We use our extensive local knowledge of the area, to recommend the best restaurants, nightlife and trips which is based on our extensive local knowledge not commission.
RJ: How does all of that benefit the community?
Paul: We encourage guests to eat out as much as possible. We employ locals, and the staff at the holiday village have the opportunity to learn to sail and windsurf (for free) to give them more skills and confidence.
That’s why Pures’ tag-line is “more than a holiday”
RJ: Pure is known for windsurfing, but are there other water-sports do you offer?
Paul: This summer we introduced sailing into our programme, with a couple of Fun Boats.
In 2012 we’ll be adding an additional 3 Fun Boats to our programme, and will have larger catamarans for our guests to sail (Dart 16 and a Hobbie cat 16)
The idea of our business is that it grows with our customers. 2011 was our second year and we now have a great range of kit available to suit all standards of windsurfers.
RJ: As well as lessons, and equipment rental, what else does Pure Tourism offer?
Paul: In terms of our accommodation we have; villas, apartments and hotel rooms available. 2011 saw AVTA building a lovely Boutique hotel. The hotel is 200 hundred metres from the beach and next to the main swimming pool. All of the hotel rooms are en-suite with air con, flat screen TVs and a balcony. The villas and apartments have fans and the main advantage of these is that they are self catering.
Whether our customers decide to take the villas or the hotel rooms, they all benefit from the facilities within the holiday village, including: Tennis, basketball and beach volleyball courts, Children’s playground, 2 swimming pools, Wireless Internet connection, Pool tables, complimentary dance lessons and BBQ area.
RJ: Thanks for the Pure summary, let’s wrap this up with your location and contact information.
Paul: The closest airport is Bodrum, which is approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes away. A shared transfer from Bodrum airport to Kadikalesi can be booked with HolidayHOPPA.com for approximately £12 per person, here’s our location:
Resort Name: Avta Tatilkoyu
Resort Address: Kadikalesi Mevkii, Turgutreis
Resort Tel: 0252 382 4495
If you are already on the Bodrum Peninsula, there’s a regular dolmüs service from Bodrum to Turgutreis. From there you can catch the Gümüşlük dolmüs to Kadikalesi. Ask to be dropped of at the AVTA holiday village.
