Shelves full of handmade gourds for sale
Le Kabbak is run by an enterprising group of lamp makers at the forefront of “rural renewal” in Dereköy.
If you turn off the main Bodrum to Turgutreis road, heading to Gümüşlük, you will drive through Dereköy and then Peksimet. Le Kabbak is on the left hand side of the road in Dereköy. It’s an eye-catching landmark as you travel along this road to Gümüşlük, especially at night when the gourds are lit up like Christmas on steriods.
The gourds can take as much as a year to dry out – and then a couple of days to turn into a lighting accessory.
According to their website, the artists put blood, sweat, tears into the making of each creation, and this infuses the gourds with new spirit.
