I just launched my Gumusluk Travel Guide e-book, which is available to download exclusively at your local Amazon store.
This is my second guide book, the first one included the entire Bodrum Peninsula, whereas this one focuses on Gumusluk and the surrounding area.
About the Book
Whether you visit Gümüşlük for the day; make it your holiday destination; or plan on visiting long-term, the “Gümüşlük Travel Guide: Bodrum’s Silver Lining” provides you with all the information you need to discover this Turkish location for yourself.
In the process of writing this guidebook, I’ve not only gathered a multitude of local information, I’ve accumulated a collection of memorable moments along the way.
This is the start of your very own journey down the historical and well-trodden path to Gümüşlük and I trust my travel guide will help to create some unforgettable memories of your own.
Book Contents
Here’s a summary of Guidebook Chapters:
Getting Your Bearings
Ease yourself into the local area, with a summary of the local landmarks to get your bearings, and a brief introduction to the Harbour, Beach and Village areas.
The History of Gümüşlük
This is an extensive collection of local Gümüşlük information that was a labour of love to compile. I have an unquenchable thirst to acquire as much knowledge and understanding of Gümüşlük as I can, and this section takes us through it’s various incarnations from Ancient Myndos, to Modern Myndos, and finally to modern day Gümüşlük.
I’m not aware of any other Gümüşlük guidebook that provides an easy-to-digest historical overview, coupled with a summary of the recent archaeological discoveries.
Gümüşlük Activities
Find out about the local activities and those in the neighbouring towns and villages. Enjoy sightseeing, hiking and walking routes, yoga, boat trips, water sports, Turkish baths, cycling and horse riding.
Shopping in Gümüşlük
Features the Gümüşlük village market and markets further afield. It also provides details of the small and large grocery shops for all of your kitchen and household essentials.
If you’re looking to pick up local souvenirs, I’ve included information about the local craft stalls by the harbour, and a selection of local art, craft and gift shops.
There’s also a summary of other useful local businesses, like the local Post Office and Chemists.
Gümüşlük Places to Eat & Drink
Gümüşlük is synonymous with seafood restaurants, and there’s plenty of them huddled around the bay, but I’ve also included a varied selection of off-the-beaten-path local cafés and lokantas. Despite its reputation as a pricey dining location, there are eating options to fit every budget.
Gümüşlük Festivals & Nightlife
Gümüşlük is renowned for its Annual International Classical Music festival, but it also plays host to local and national musicians in local bars and restaurants. Learn where to head for to listen to some live music or entertainment.
Getting Around
Find out about the frequency of the local bus routes, and the other transport options available. Whether you’re going to rely on local transport, rent a car, or take a taxi, this chapter provides you with all the information you need to Get Around.
Gümüşlük’s Neighbours
If you want to venture further afield, but not too far, I’ll introduce you to Gümüşlük’s neighbours. Karakaya, Peksimet, Dereköy and Kadikalesi all offer differet views of Turkish village life.
Turkish Recipes and Cooking
There are local Turkish recipes from a collection of expat and Turkish bloggers, who will inspire you to get creative in the kitchen. This section also features market shopping tips and a summary of key ingredients to help you stock up for your self-catering holiday.
Insider Views of Gümüşlük
Navigate an engaging compilation of observations from local residents and visitors, who share my attachment to Gümüşlük. Their collection of narratives provides insights and a unique perspective on what makes Gümüşlük such an endearing destination.
Gümüşlük Accommodation
My pièce de résistance, as many of these places has little or no Internet presence. As well as a couple of small boutique hotels, the independent travellers among you will be pleasantly surprised (and maybe a little over-whelmed) by the vast collection of local pansiyon and apartments available to rent in the village, harbour and beach areas.
Appendix
A glossary of some key Turkish words you’ll encounter within this guide, as well as some pointers on where to find additional Gümüşlük and Bodrum Peninsula information.
Altogether, this guide is packed with enough local information to ensure your visit to Gümüşlük is enjoyable, fulfilling and memorable.
